Western & Southern Financial Group plans to move the main office of its Lafayette Life Insurance Company unit to Cincinnati by June.
Lafayette Life, a company that writes life and annuity products for individuals and small businesses, has been in Lafayette, Ind., for 105 years.
Western & Southern, Cincinnati, decided to move the company to make it more competitive, according to Western & Southern Chairman John Barrett.
“Lafayette Life is a very important, high-performing part of our family of companies,” Barrett says in a statement. “In Cincinnati, we have the capacity and resources to help build on Lafayette Life’s strengths and enhance its support by taking full advantage of our scale through the back-office services we have built.”
Western & Southern acquired Lafayette Life in 2005.
Lafayette Life now has about 150 employees in Lafayette. Full-time employees can choose between moving to Cincinnati or taking severance benefits, Western & Southern says.
After the move, Lafayette Life will keep its name, marketing structure and distribution structure.
The Lafayette Life Foundation, a foundation affiliated with Lafayette Life, will stay in Lafayette under the leadership of Bill Olds and continue to support causes such as the United Way, Western & Southern says.
