Michigan Names New Department of Insurance and Financial Services Head

Ann Flood, who has more than 25 years of experience in legal, insurance and health care, replaces Kevin Clinton, who has been named state treasurer.
Ann Flood has been appointed director of the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) effective Nov. 1, 2013. Flood, who is currently is the department’s chief deputy director, will replace Kevin Clinton, who has been appointed to the role of state treasurer by Governor Rick Snyder.
“Ann Flood is a natural successor to Kevin to lead our team at DIFS,” Snyder said. “She has been there from the start and I look forward to her continuing that great work as director of the department.”
As chief deputy director for DIFS, which is responsible for regulating Michigan’s financial industries, including banks, credit unions, insurance and mortgage companies with more than 350 employees, Flood was responsible for the department’s offices of general counsel, insurance evaluation, insurance rates and forms, the budget office, information technology services and human resources. Previously, she was EVP and COO of American Physicians Capital Inc. Prior, she was SVP, corporate secretary and legal counsel of ProNational Insurance Co. Flood is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and a registered nurse, having earned her bachelor’s in nursing from the University of Michigan and law degree from Wayne State University.
