Could life insurance be used to finance cancer treatments?

Modern cancer treatments are growing increasingly successful but unaffordable. Could life-insurance policies be used to help pay patients’ out-of-pocket costs? Research by Chicago Booth’s Ralph S.J. Koijen and Columbia’s Stijn Van Nieuwerburgh argues this would be good for both patients and life insurers, as it would help patients access treatment and maintain financial stability while also making life insurance a more valuable product.
