Nationwide’s New Bet: Workers Want Indexed Annuities in 401(k)s

“I do expect more companies to offer in-plan indexed annuities,” said Sheryl Moore, CEO of Wink and More Market Intelligence, which tracks the annuity market.

Companies need time to comply with the Employee Retirement Income Security Act, which governs in-plan investment choices, she said.
“I think Nationwide was ahead of the game in that regard,” she said. “Other companies will follow though, especially the bigger, more highly-rated insurers.”
Moore said Wink did a 2011 survey that found that only five insurers at the time allowed their indexed annuities to be held in employer 401(k)s.
