Iowa ranks in top 10 states for retirement. How does it compare to the rest of the US?

Iowa ranked in the top 10 best states to retire in 2025, according to a financial services company.
The Motley Fool surveyed 1,500 Americans to rank all 50 states to find out what is most important to those who are retiring. The survey evaluated housing, quality of life, health, crime rates, taxes, weather and the cost of living. The highest-ranked states scored 100.
Other recent lists have also rated Iowa strongly among places to retire. Des Moines was ranked 28th best city to retire in U.S. News’ annual list. This spring, Seniorly named Iowa the most affordable state for retirees. And, Iowa City was named to Forbes’ Top 25 places to retire list.
