It is my “coffee,” so to speak.

Many of you know that I am a Dr. Pepper addict.
I used to drink nothing but Dr. Pepper and water, as an adolescent.
Today, I drink a can of Dr. Pepper & Cream Soda every morning. It is my “coffee,” so to speak.
Matt Mylroie saw one of my recent DP posts, and decided to send me a treat.
The ORIGINAL Dr. Pepper!
There’s a story to go with it:
“Dublin, Texas is the birthplace of DP. The original bottling factory is still there. However, as DP grew they remained just a bottler/distributor, not the corporate headquarters. At some point, DP changed the formula, primarily with the substitution of high fructose corn syrup instead of pure cane sugar. They refused to change.
They continued to sell this as “Dublin Dr. Pepper” with all the official logos, and initially DP corporate was fine with that. Then maybe 10 or so years ago they were working on big distribution deals with Coke or Pepsi and started getting into legal battles with the “Dublin DP” guys. First, they had their distribution limited, only able to sell within a small geographic area around Dublin. Then it got nasty and DP told them that they couldn’t use the Dr. Pepper name anymore unless they changed the formula. The Dublin guys told DP corporate to shove it up their you-know-what, and a legal battle ensued. Dublin wouldn’t back down on the formula, so they finally ended their relationship with Doctor Pepper, and formed their own brand.
They continue to make the original formula, in glass bottles, under the name of “Founder’s Recipe”. They’ve also added a bunch of other flavors and now distribute wherever the heck they want. They still operate out of the same original factory in little Dublin Texas.
Matt’s family lives close by, so he’s been there many times.”
And he sent me a bunch of it. Delicious!!
In case you are wondering, it is a little bit sweeter and has less of a bite in the aftertaste, than the official Dr. Pepper! -sjm
