I just wish that AJ was here to see it all!

Eleven years ago, I lost my son to suicide.
AJ Betts was relentlessly bullied for being gay.
Eleven years ago, I learned that his gift of bodily donation was restricted to “life saving organs” only; just because he was gay.
He could not donate his blood, intestines, corneas, or tissues.
Ten years ago, my former Senator, Tom Harkin, worked with me to change the law, so that gay men could donate blood. Just before for the Pulse Nightclub shooting.
Four years ago, I began working with Dr. Michael Puente, MD, to change the law, so that gay men could donate their corneas.
Dr. Puente worked his tail off, to show that no one had ever contracted HIV from a gay man’s cornea donation.
TODAY, the FDA just lifted their entire ban on gay men’s donations: corneas, blood, tissues, EVERYTHING!! Click HERE to read
I am OVERCOME with emotion! I just wish that AJ was here to see it all! <3
Thank you so much, Dr. Puente. I am indebted to you. *hugs* -sjm
