Measuring The Markets: The Long And Short View

Prior to this year’s election, a Nationwide Retirement Institute survey showed a majority of investors believe the results of the 2024 U.S. federal elections will have a bigger impact on their retirement plans and portfolio than market performance – up 10 percentage points from just a year ago. In my opinion, this view is more likely to be based on personal emotion than historical precedent or financial knowledge.
While everyone is entitled to their opinion on which party is best for their investment portfolio, I believe investors’ long-term plans should remain just that – a road map for the long haul – regardless of which party controls the government today or two decades from now.
