The Gartner Eye on Innovation Award for Insurance recognizes innovative use of digital technology-enabled capabilities, products, or services to highlight “best-in-class” financial industry initiatives. A global panel of senior insurance executives selected the winners.

Group 1001’s winning project, Transfer Automation Packet, focused on developing a comprehensive automation platform using artificial intelligence and machine learning to overhaul and expedite the transfer process for annuities and life insurance products. It is powered by Onyx, Group 1001’s cloud-native annuity administration system that supports new business for two Group 1001 companies, Delaware Life Insurance Company and Gainbridge Life Insurance Company.

After experiencing a rapid 400% growth in service volume, Group 1001’s Onyx team saw the need to increase demand efficiently. The platform uses intelligent document classification, automated data extraction, dynamic workflow management, and real-time integration with existing systems, allowing the entire process to be automated while ensuring data integrity and regulatory compliance.

“While industry incumbents remain dependent on manual processing methodologies, our platform provides comprehensive intelligent automation,” said Lindsay Fulmer, Chief Strategy Officer, Onyx. “This has allowed us to establish new benchmarks for operational efficiency in annuity transfer processing. I am proud of our team’s work to create an innovative solution that helped us improve customer experiences and operational efficiencies.”

This solution had a significant business impact: 90% improvement in processing speed, 60% reduction in operations costs, and automating 85% of transfers. With the same number of team members, the team could process 1,000+ transfers daily, up from 200.
