Adult Children Often Misunderstand Parents’ Wishes, Wealthspire Says

Adult children often misunderstand how their aging parents define a “good life,” according to Sarah Wotherspoon, a senior advisor at Wealthspire Advisors, a national wealth management firm and financial fiduciary with multiple advisory businesses that collectively over see more than $550 billion.
That misunderstanding leads to poor planning, financially and emotionally, Wotherspoon, a managing director in Wealthspire’s San Rafael, Calif. office, said. The cure is advanced planning and good communication that includes normalizing difficult conversations focused around long-term planning.
