Consumers Question Whether Annuity Issuers Will Pay Promised Benefits: Study

U.S. sales of annuities and long-term care insurance are much lower than economists might expect partly because U.S. consumers are skeptical about whether insurers will pay the promised benefits.
Joseph Briggs, who’s an economist at Goldman Sachs, and two other economists present evidence supporting that view in a new working paper published behind a paywall on the website of the National Bureau of Economic Research.
