R. Glenn Hilliard says he will not seek re-election as a director of CNO Financial Group Inc. at the company’s upcoming annual meeting.
The CNO board expects to elect Neal Schneider to succeed Hilliard as chairman at the meeting, which is set to take place May 12, according to CNO, Carmel, Ind. (NYSE:CNO).
Hilliard, the former chairman of ING Americas, a unit of ING Groep N.V., Amsterdam (NYSE:ING), became chairman of CNO in 2003. He took over as executive chairman in August 2004, as the company was recovering from financial problems caused by an unsuccessful expansion into the consumer finance industry.
In September 2005, Hilliard returned to being a non-executive chairman.
Hilliard has a bachelor’s degree from Clemson University and a law degree from George Washington University.
Schneider has also been on the CNO board since 2003, and he is now chairman of the CNO audit committee.
Schneider has been chairman of PMA Capital Corp., Blue Bell, Pa., a property-casualty insurer. He also has been the partner in charge of the insurance practice at Arthur Andersen L.L.P., Chicago.
Schneider has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Charleston. He holds the Certified Public Accountant professional designation.
