Former Iowa Insurance Commissioner to Join FBL Financial Group as Chief Administrative Officer

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – Former Iowa Insurance Commissioner Nick Gerhart will join FBL Financial Group Inc. as the company’s chief administrative officer, the company announced.
Gerhart resigned as insurance commissioner Dec. 23 after taking the job in February 2013. Deputy Commissioner Doug Ommen, a former Missouri insurance commissioner, became the interim commissioner (Best’s News Service, Dec. 6, 2016).
Gerhart’s new job gives him responsibility for enterprise strategic planning, government relations, human resources and health services, and other administrative functions. He will be a member of the FBL Financial Group’s management team reporting to FBL Financial Chief Executive Officer James P. Brannen, the company announcement said.
“Nick has provided outstanding service to the state of Iowa and the insurance industry, and he has a reputation for innovation and fairness,” Brannen said in a statement. “His deep understanding of insurance and regulation makes him ideally suited for this role.”
Before becoming Iowa’s insurance commissioner, Gerhart worked at Sammons Financial Group and American Equity Investment Life Insurance Co.
The Farm Bureau Life Insurance Co. has a current Best’s Financial Strength Rating of A (Excellent).
