Are we fools for a catchy acronym?

Remember when the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission issued that Investor Bulletin on structured annuities, but called them “indexed annuities?”
IT IS FOR THIS REASON THAT I HAVE ALWAYS SUGGESTED WE NOT REFER TO STRUCTURED ANNUITIES AS ANYTHING REMOTELY RELATED TO INDEXED ANNUITIES.
PLEASE do not call them “Registered Index-Linked Annuities” or “RILAs,” folks. The regulators don’t understand our products. We certainly don’t need additional confusion between insurance and securities products.
